Mission statement
"Dedicated to the care of abused, neglected, or unwanted domestic animals through:
Long-Term Care, Short-Term Emergency Care, Rehabilitation, Adoption Placement, Agency Referrals, and Education."

SharonLee Murlasits

SharonLee Murlasits is our Founder
With 40 years of animal related animal experience. The desire to be  with  and care for animals led her to work at riding stables, equine breeding facilities, kennels, veterinary offices. Through this type of work, a wealth of knowledge was accumulated. A  chance meeting in 1987 with an incorrigible, intolerant, headstrong, down right vicious Arabian mare named "Lady Cakes" was the catalyst that today is Wanekia Wanagi Shelter. The love for Lady Cakes brought out the determination to provide a place for abused, neglected, and unwanted horses to recover, rehabilitate, and live in dignity once again. Ten years of effort brought about the incorporation of  the shelter on July 28, 1997, as a federally licensed 501[c]3  public charity.
