My Story* -By Bobbie Lou On April 22nd 2005 I got a reg. paint gelding named Itchie, I found him online and once I saw him. I knew I had to have him. Itchie wasn't trained when I got him, he would walk all over you when you would try to lead him and he just seemed scared. Then Sherry told me his story of how he was abused. I then understood he would take time to overcome this. I eventually got on Itchies back and soon put a saddle on and got the bit in his mouth little by little and Itch cooperated as much as possible. Once I got him to walk, trot, and stop when he was told we decided to take him on trails, the first time he was wonderful he always wanted to run and listened very well for the first time. I did get thrown a few times but when I did he would just stand there like " hey you! why are you down there?" he never would try to run back to the barn or anything, he was such a gentleman. a few months passed and I switched him from a western saddle to English. Soon I started working with Itchie on his left and right leads, he got them down perfectly. he knew right and left like a pro, even if I was free lunging him he would do the right leads. he was so amazing. then I was curious to see if he could jump, we practiced for about 2 weeks then I had my trainer who was originally from Hungry come over. we set up 2 barrels and poles on each side of them. When Itchie saw the jump he got excited and sped up and jumped it like it was nothing. Then I knew he could go far with the right training. So we moved him to the barn where I was taking lessons, an amazing hunter/jumper barn. He is now there and he Loves it. the trainer rode him everyday for about a month and she told me the first day it would be a month before she would canter him, but 2 weeks later she started cantering him and she was so amazed at how smooth his canter was, he's like riding on a rocking horse. The trainer thinks he will be ready to show by this summer and go to all different states with the AHJA. Before I found Itchie he was in search of a home for a second chance. he never did anything wrong to be abused and be scared for so long, there are millions of other horses out there just like him, who will not only be an amazing horse and get you far in whatever discipline you want, but be the best friend you'll ever have.. I wouldn't give Itchie up for anything. he's part of me and that's where he's staying til the day I die. all you have to do is give a horse a chance, .... give it a try, trust me.. you won't regret it. -Bobbie Lou
